Tommy Lasorda Determination

“The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man’s determination.” – Tommy Lasorda, former Los Angeles Dodgers manager

Sure, Lasorda was talking about baseball, but this quote hits just as hard in the business world.

Every successful business you see today, at some point, someone told them their idea would never work. I take it you’ve heard of Netflix? When they first launched a DVD-by-mail service, it sounded INSANE. Then they had the nerve to pivot into streaming, back when most people still had cable or satellite. People laughed. Blockbuster (remember them?) even passed on the chance to buy them. But Netflix’s founders didn’t back down. They saw where the world was going, stayed the course, and pushed through. That determination changed the entire entertainment industry.

Here’s the thing, doubt, like mosquitos on a hot, humid day in Texas, always show up. Sometimes it comes from other people. Sometimes it’s your own inner voice telling you you’re not ready, the market’s too crowded, or your idea just isn’t good enough. And if you let it, that doubt will slow you down or stop you in your tracks.

But determination? Well, that’s the game-changer. It’s what keeps you moving when the first version of your idea flops. It’s what makes you get back up after hearing “no” for the tenth time. It’s what wakes you up at 2am with solutions. Determination says, “Okay, this is tough, but I’m not done yet.”

In business, things will always get messy. Plans will fall apart. Timelines will stretch. People will quit. But if you’re determined, truly locked in on your vision, you’ll find a way. You’ll adjust. You’ll learn. You’ll grow.

So the next time you hit a wall or feel like giving up, remember: most “impossible” things stay impossible only because someone stopped trying. Don’t let that someone be you. Determination doesn’t guarantee success overnight, but it gives you a fighting chance to turn possible into reality.

Are you letting doubt hold you back or are you determined to overcome the obstacles keeping you from success?

It’s Up To You!
